Kernpsville High School rates very highly with the Princess Anne County residents and is rapidly growing in the eyes of the surrounding public. As this graduating class ol' '49 passes through the doors of the place that has made their early lives so worthwhile, their one great hope is that their Alma Mater will always stand for the highest, noblest and the best ever. H - Their ability to spread jollity, as well participate in it, is one of the many qualities that has brightened the last four years of their association with their fellow students. The size and ability of the class of '49 has largely contributed to the athletic prowess and literary feats of the school. Leadership is one field in which they hold an unchallenged title and in which they have always realized and assumed their responsibilities. Certainly, qualities such as these should serve as a goal to urge them on to greater success. i103 JIMMIE BAGGETT Manager, Basketball-'48 CHARLOTTE BAUM Glee Club-'45, '46 Tri-Hi-Y-'48 Baseball-'46 Beta Club-'47, '48 Newspaper+'47 4-H Club-'45, '46, '47 F. Muscles'3 Conant is at last resting quietly in DePaul Hospital as a result of his un- successful solo flight in his new Whizmobile. Last week his nurses, Sally Buzzy and Jeanie Scott, were seen chasing a. eouple Admiral Mathew Thackston, now piloting the S. S. Pocahontas The comedy trio, consisting had a command performance last of interns down the corridors-business, of course. after completing a ten year course in navigation school, is between Cape Charles and Little Creek. of Ella. lyfay Rodgers, Faye Evans, and Charlotte Baum, night before our famous president, Robert Yon. Yes, the patent oflice in Washington is full of new ideas and experiments, but last week topped them all. Peggy Mole Hundley sent in her new Vanish Forever Mole Cream and science was astonished-it is said that her old friend, Betty Whiz Gardner took time off from the Bell Telephone Company to help with the experiment. 1 After completing their beautician courses in Correspondence School, jean Hodges and Dora Brice have opened a new beauty shop exclusively for men. Their most faithful customer is J. P. Davenport. Jean Moore, former Kempsville sweater girl,,is modeling angora midriifs for Peek-A-Boo Company, Inc. The Henry Ford interests now own half a share of Fort Knox due to some successful stock market speculations on the part of Barbara Belanga, assistant secretary in general. Audrey Wolfe, eminently known shoe manufacturer of the latest fad, 'Lslip-here-and-there casual pumps, has recently employed divorcec Donald Davis as her no. one man. fSecretary, of course.j George Edward Webb Jr., scourge of the underworld, terror of Chicago, public enemy no. one and general gangster, was seen this week at the Troeadcro, nightclubbing with his sultry-eyed gun moll, Anne Lee Buzzy. It is said that on dismal, dreary Mondays, if you look hard enough, you may see meek, little june Garrenton singing Give It a Little Fling and Toss It Over Here for the Salvation Army down on Granby Street. Marlene Meade, our great contemporary artist of the twentieth century, who now re- sides on the Riviera of the Villa de Montague, France, has just returned for what she terms will be her greatest work-an oil of Worley, the Curly Girl. Our thrice married wren, Dorlores Lupton, has iust received a thousand dollar bonus on her patented idea of using a jet tractor to mow down corn. She received the honor last Thursday, her arms in casts, her 'legs supported by crutches. f20l Due to limberness and gracefulness achieved while cheer leading in K. H. S., Mary Sue Kiracofe is receiving encores as a Hotsy Totsy dancer in a Honky Tonk, owned and operated by Babyface Duplain. Mrs. Barnes' successor, Leah Ray Mears, is back at Kempsville. She has taken over Mrs. Barnes' old job of trying to graduate Billy Hudgins, who was somehow dropped by the wayside in the rush of '49, The eminently famous and world renowned interior decorator Claire Kennedy has achieved a new harmonizing of chartreus criss-crosses enhanced by robins' egg blue waves, offset by vermillion and indigo sprays and is reported to be trying this effect in the trophy room of millionaire big game hunter, Bennett Dixon Sloan. The Boston Red Sox have just received two new recruits, one puny pitcher by the name of Lawton Box and his ace whiz water boy by the name of Bud Everett. Our new principal, Miss Barbara Richards, has just received word that Edward Flanders, who is now running a hot dog stand in Podunk, is suflicring from delusions of mustard jello topped with pickles gooed up in his four foot beard. Our two great statesmen of English, Voter Parron and I-Iotlips Nuckols have just printed their own English book making the verb-to be-passive, transitive. Shoes' has just hired one of the most glamorous girls in Norfolk, our own Miss Charlotte Bowden, for curb service. You must drop in sometime. John Rittenhouse and Wayne Boggs are serving a 1 to 99 year term at Alcatraz for skidding around mountain curves while racing in their grandmother's hotrods, which were loaded with loot stolen from Rice's foundation department. We hear they are happy little trustees now. Warning! Joyce Carrick is still looking for a dream man. Edward Deford recently lost his title as the World's Fastest Typistn to his very able successor, Mr. Robert Hendricks, and is retiring to dairy raising. Mr. Hendricks made his debut at Carnegie Hall last month playing Nutcracker Suite at a net speed of 358W words a minute. Flash! The newest champion of the world famed Olympic Games-The greatest bicyclist to ever pump a pedal-The Houdini of the spokes-We give you-Jack Price! Her blue eyes turned to sea green, her blonde hair to red, Cherry Mitchell is no longer a Norfolk belle. This lovely mermaid now resides on the sandy coral shores of Miami Beach. QMaking sand castles ?j Dewey Davis, traveling schmoo salesman, tells us of a Harvey House where petite Lenore Rice slings hash three times daily. Blair Eubanks now has an up and coming young radio announcer to take his place upon retirement. Howard Pyle is really going far in the radio world and may be due for television, but credit should also be given to his able sound effects girl, Hazel Meixel. Richard Lane has just about made up his mind to go another term to please Mrs. Barnes. She says she just can't get along without her 'painn prankster, so heis taking up practical joking in summer school this season. Ladies and Gentlemen. How truly sorry we are to report to you the depressing news we have received of one of the foremost students of this Senior Class. We know how sorry you will be upon hearing of the well known international bee-keeper, Benny Haste. There has been no change in his critical condition. The latest communique from Lee Memorial Hospital says they are injecting grams of pure honey into his veins every four hours to offset the bee poison. We hope that after he gets well, this accident will not affect his eye sight so he won't stumble over his bee hives anymore. i211 O 1.x .E W - Qs M .W :xi Mix .A-.,.: M U-5? THE LAST WILL AND TESTAMENT We, the Senior Class of Kempsville High School, in the year of nineteen hun- dred and forty-nine 1194-9j, being of sound mind and body, do hereby designate this as our Last Will and Testament. To Kempsville High School we bequeath home room and Mrs. Barnes-both total wrecks as a result of the class of '49. Item Item Item Item Item Item Item Item Item Item Item Item Item Item Item Item Item Billy Hudgins and John Rittenhouse leave their pestering ways and big mouths to Louise Ward. Someday shc may calm down. Dewey Davis relinquishes his love for school work and his ability to get by with the least effort. Studious Jean Moore gladly takes posession of them. Robert fwhizj Parron and Robert Qlightningj Yon leave their speedy wit to Joe Vestal.. Betty Gardner and Norma Jean Scott will their Joke Books to Kay I-Iessel. Speaking of books, Hazel Meixel and Charlotte Bowden pass on their crammed date books to homey little Shirley Kirby. Richard Lane leaves his husky, muscular legs to Aubin Reams. Jean Moore bequeaths to Naomi Scarbough her numerous male acquaint- ances in hopes.-fPeriodj Bud Everett just leaves again this year and hopes this will be his last exit. Edward Flanders and Donald Davis leave the address of their favorite beauty salon to Joan Ero. Bobby Hendricks, Edward DeFord and Wayne Boggs leave their quiet gentleman like ways to Ted Shreve. He may need them. Richard Conant leaves his teeth to Babs Brice so that she will have an extra set ready after each baton twirling. Eddie Webb, Benny Haste, and J. P. Davenport leave their Football ability to Curly Young. Someday we hope he will be able to make the Varsity. Melvin Nuckols bequeaths his complete car to Ernie Grey and also an extra set of windows. Clara Kennedy bequeaths her sophistication to Annette Bracy, praying that someday sheill change for the better. Buddy Duplain leaves his crutches and insurance policies to Buddy Brie in hopes that he can accomplish more than a black eye. Lawton Box wills his elevated shoes to Forrest Newhall. Barbara Belanga leaves to Mary Anne Lee her ability to rate as a Senior. i241 Item Item Item Item Item Item Item Item Item Item Item Item Item Item Item Item Item I tern Mathew Thaekston leaves his knack for cutting up in class to Louise Ward. ' Barbara Richards, Dorlores Lupton, and Lenore Rice bequeath to Eliza- beth Yon their typing ability, which will come in handy if she ever gets to class. Anne Buzzy leaves her eoy look and flirtious ways to Jimmy Da.venport. From Joyce Carrick and Faye Evans, Victor Peek receives the ability to blush. VVe sincerely hope he'll learn to use it someday. Ella. lVIay Rogers wills her vitamin pills to Helen INilkie. lVIuscles and Brawn, the prize possessions of Cherry lXIitchell and Sue Kiracoie, become the property ol' Shelton Nixon, since he is the only one we can find. Leah Ray CSweater-girlj lvlears carries with her everything she's got. I-Iappy Day! No one around here will be burdened with it. Since Audrey Wolfe is always slipping here and slipping there, we decided to just let her name slip from this document. Jack Price would love to donate something to the Jr. Class, but he can't, cause his limited possessions are Null and Void. Jean I-Iodges leaves to Lucille Richardson her ability to make straight A's. Dick Sloan leaves his lastly beating heart, tied with a bright red bow, to Pat Douglas. Jimmy Baggett and Sally. Buzzy will their babyish ways to the entire Jr. Class, hoping that they will use them as an example and grow up sooner. Dora Brice leaves her Little Black Book, the source of her dates, to Winifred Acree, who will most likely make the best of them. June Garrenton ean't leave Billy. He has clung to her so constantly during the past year that they are rapidly becoming Siamese Twins. Peggy I-Iundley leaves her famous mole to Medical Science, which has already been retarded 100 years by observations of other Kernpsvillians. Marlene Meade wills her knack for giving unwanted opinions on all sub- jects to Betty Blankenship. I-Iere's hoping you will have more listeners, Betty. Since Charlotte Baum is losing weight we think it is proper for her to will to Doris Shepherd her complete course on How To Reduce In 98 Easy Lessons. For Doris the number will be increased to 1000. We often speak of dresses fitting, shoes Fitting, etc. To this list we may now add a ear that fits, for Howard Pyle has willed his run-about to lNfIrs. Barlow. A tighter squeeze has never been seen. I2'5l Sept. Sept. Cot. Nov. Nov. Nov. Dec. Jan. Jan. Jan. Jan. Feb. Feb. March April May June June June A SENIOR LIVES, TOO! School opened-we were dignified Seniors at last. But the same old story, quote, you're the dumbest class I've ever seen. Jean Moore was spotted as the Sweater Girl of the Month. Ah, we just love those sweaters. Jean Hodges and Benny Haste represented the Seniors in Halloween Carnival. 'CVoter Parron and Melvin Nuckols were having trouble with the verb to be. Summer hair cuts arrived a little soon for Muscles Conant and Jimmie Baggett--Could it be they were mistaken for sheep. Ba, Ba. Ah, rest and did we need it. Back to school again and ready for more work. In the far corners of room 1 could be heard a slight mumbling of voices, what were they saying? Why everything, cause The Professor Goes Haywire is the name of the play and tryouts are today. Deadline for term paper. Death for dead heads. English IV Exam-where those sentences came from no one knows, but where they could have gone everyone knows. Begins the new term, and the resolution of working harder. Anne Buzzy represents the Senior Class at the Valentine Dance. The Senior Play was terrific. Tuesday after Monday eorsages. Jr.-Senior Prom held at Oiiicers' Club was an event that will linger with us always. BZlCC3lI1L1I'C2't'fC SCTITIOI1.
