GIRLS SPORTS The Grrls Physrcal Edueatron program thrs year consrsted of basketball volleyball softball calrsthenrcs folk dancmg and modern dancmg archery and swrmmrng The grrls who went out for the Black K stayed after school for addrtronal practrce and engaged rn competrtrve games at the play days The Laytonvrlle llrgh School grrls came to Kelseyvtlle rn October and engaged rn a volley ball meet Both games were won by the Laytonvrlle grrls On January 30 the teams from Lake port and Kelseyvrlle hrgh schools partrctpated rn a basketball and volley ball meet The grrls left Kelseyvrlle at 2 30 p m and frnrshed both games about 5 30 They were then served an appetrzrng chnner at the hrgh school cafeterra There were three sports days rn whrch the gtrls of the frve hrgh schools rn the county par Lrcrpated The frrst was a volleyball meet at Lakeport on March 15 1951 The schools represented were Kelsey vrlle Lakeport Lower Lake Mrddletown and Upper Lake The second county wrde Grrls Sports Day was held at Mrddletown on Aprrl 17 The grrls played softball from 2 30 unt1l S UO rt was so cold that day that rt was decrded to cancel some gm over Lower Lake The gtrls partrcrpatrng were Jeanette Akers Pat Benson Mary Bradbrook Lola Carter Vern Dorrty Vrrgrma Gayaldo Karen Mannrng Frances McColley Patsy Morrr son Wrnona Munger Erma Schuetz Mary Jo Shuler Dolores Renfro Carol Warfel and Evadene Wrrght Refreshments were served after the games The thrrd county wrde Grrls Sports Day was held at Lower Lake May 17 1951 Lakeport took lst place Mrddletown 2nd and Kelseyvrlle 'Srd 111 softball Durrng the last three weeks of school archery was rntrodueed The lrrls entered rnto thrs sport mth enthusrasm though rt was an actrvrty that had not been offered rn our htgh school for several years Mrss London accompamed the grrls to the Loch Lomond Pool for swrmmrng several trmes durrng the last weeks of school Y'xL z I .
