SENIOR PROPHECY Qcontrnuedj BOB TALLMAN wrth whom I had become very frrendly rnvrted me to go wrth h1m and hrs wrfe fthe former Pat Berrsony to Crrro s one of the popular nrght clubs rn New York DON AUGENSTEIN was manager there so he welcomed us wrth a glad hand and a broad smrle as he conducted us to one of hrs best tables Hrs attractrve hostess PAT REEDER soon came over to our table to greet Bob and hrs wrfe and to ask me howl lrked the brrght lrghts after so many years rn Kelseyvrlle She seemed to have struck rt rrch as the lovely gown and Jewels she wore testrfred After a whrle a flam harred crgarette grrl wrth the brrefest possrble cos tume made her way toward us She seemed very frrendly wrth everybody and as she stopped at our table and gunned at me I thought surely I should know her but the name escaped me Bob trred to make the srtuatron less embarrassrng by askrng rfl drd not remember MARGIE HUD SPETH our vrvacrous yell leader at K U H S The band at Crrro s was very good and featured an expert saxophonrst BOB PEMBERTON I drd not remember hrm but hrs frrends were talkrng about how hard he had worked to get to be tops on hrs rnstrument and now he was srttrng pretty As the evenrng progressed the crowd became gayer and gayer One of the entertarners who was especrally popular was a blond who lrtcrally sparkled as she was shackled wrth dramond bracelets dramond rrngs dramond stars lll her harr dramond necklace etc etc They sard her name was NANCY THOMPSON Class of 51 butl drd not remember her Whrle we were eatrng a shy lrttle man made hrs way through the crowded room to our table and whrspered somethrng very confrdentral to Btb who drd not seem very rnterested However hrs frrend was very persrstent and frnally Bob he had some hot trps on the races at Saratoga Now Norman began to pass the confrdentral rnformatron on to me He sard that a Jockey he knew DEAN MARSHALL would be rrdrng Hrgh Strung the next day and he was almost sure to wrn I could wrn a lot of money rf I cared to bet on the race LEE ROY STILLEY owned the horse and JEFF MAHNKE had trarned her The gamblrng rnstrnct was always strong rn me so I borrowed S500 from Bob and placed a bet on the horse On the way out of the Club I notrced that Bob and Pat were very frrendly wrth the hat check gul She looked currously at me and smrled I gave her a brg trp and passed on They later told me that she was an old frrend ELEANOR JORDAN The race next day was very excrtrng When Hrgh Strung came rn a wrnner I sat down rn a daze wrth my head rn my hands DON BONE one of the clerks at Everhart Inc who had come wrth me to the race track began to shake me and say Gosh old Man don t you realrze what has happened to you?
