The Place to Get 0ur Bearings iuiriion oom peace ure The division period, the core of the school day, is the all important session during which the poli- cies of the school are made known to the students through the division teachers. Above all, this is the portion of the school day designed to help the student work out his main purposes in life. It is in planning his future that the student gets to know and to admire the unseltish, the wise, and the friendly counsel of an understanding division teacher. He comes to high school with a vague notion of what he wants to do. His division teacher, aided by objective tests, sees to it that his courses are chosen with a definite plan and purpose in rnind. Before he has reached his final year, not only the requirements for graduation are understood, but the prerequisites for the college of his choice. Mrs. Rheinstrom is indicat- ing various sequences available for Branch students. Much individual direction is possible during this quarter hour. How good it is to relax formal classroom procedure for informal visiting with division teacher or fellow stu- dents! Wlien refreshments, a grab-bag, and entertainment are added-as they are at the Christmas parties-even a long division is much too brief. 4B divisions, working as a unit in 315, undertake weighty projects requiring clear thinking and careful expenditure of hard-earned wages. Whether it is a question of law or finance, Mr. Philbin is competent to point the way to the wisest choice. Occasionally Mr. McKeag addresses the large group of 4A's assembled for division in the audi- torium, A collection of canned food to alleviate the plight of children in war-torn areas is underway in this class. The worthiness of the cause prompts a generous response, and the committees in charge proceed to pack the donations. With an ease that intrigues and speed that brings smiles upon the faces of the assembled group, Mr. Keating outlines a sequence of subjects which will enable his students to meet commercial course requirements, and, at the same time, fulfill college entrance prerequisites. 26
