Next year looks like a big one for the KHS Blackbirds as the team is losing only four men by graduation: Paul Buffum, Bill Bridgham, Don Pottle, and Jim Masiello. Track is a team sport. It depends not on the individual but on the whole for its success. Thus, Co-Captain Jim Trafton sacrificed his best eventethe 880-yard dash-to run in the l00, 220, and 440. Co-Captain John Barrett set a new discus record by hurling it T115 feet. Cliff Channell, a senior newcomer, was the dark horse of the season but proved his mettle by winning the T80-yard low hurdles at the State Meet and by romping off with first place honors in the State Decathlon Championship. The real highlight of the season was a postal meet between Keene and Anchorage, Alaska. Each team scheduled meets with nearby teams, then at the end of the season each averaged the scores attained Its novel to have a postal meet between two teams that are so widely separated but to have the scores come out a tie was absolutely amazing To have an even more exciting meet this year Coach Mayes invited Hawaii to enter this rompeti tion thus making it a triangular meet among three widely separated points .J First row L Nye H Lane R Britton Second row D Lm ert R Laurent 5 Q 1 sr w D Masters N Arsenault R Vogel H L ne J P Furlone Secort r rv J Qu n n P Forcier C Channell B Britton J Trafton Co Captain J Barrett Co Capta n L Goodhue B Nichols W Goodnow J Keefe Third row J Hanna P Eckhard W Bridgl' m W Peart G Shepard P Barrett G Hall T Tracy C Cheney Coach Mayes IO9 1 I I I 4 : . , . , .
