174 Sterling Scholars Sterling Scholar Program Honors Seniors For Academic Excellence The Sterling Scholar Pro- gram, sponsored by KSL and The Deseret News, honors se- lect high school seniors for aca- demic excellence. Each com- peting school nominates candi- dates in twelve categories. The nominees then prepare portfo- lios which contain details of their accomplishments. In March and April, the candi- dates are judged in two elimina- tion rounds. The competition is intense, but the finalists are awarded valuable prizes and scholarships. Among the crite- ria used by the judges are aca- demic achievement, citizen- ship, leadership, and character. At press time, the final judg- ing had not taken place, there- fore, we could not know how well our nominees would do in the elimination rounds. Never- theless, it's an honor for these fine students to have been no- minated for this prestigious competition.
