Mrs. Regina Wall, advisor Literary Staff Produces Attic The Attic staff publishes our annual literary magazine, The Attic. This year, many staff members belonged to the Gran- ite Youth Writers, special stu- dents who are selected from the entire Granite District for their writing ability and G.P.A.'s. Attic staffers Write poetry, short stories, and essays, and accept and edit contributions from the student body for inclu- sion in the literary magazine. This year's editor was Nancy Beth Ivie. The assistant editor was Natalie Tanner. We would also like to thank the members of the Attic staff for the original poem which we used as this year's yearbook theme. Thanks, staff! Debators Have Best Year Ever This year's Debate Club was the best ever. There Were many re- turning debaters, Mrs. Wall, the advisor, said that this year's squad was the strongest she has ever seeng and the debaters won more trophies and placed more people in final or semi-final rounds in every meet than ever before. In state-Wide events Where 30 to 40 schools are repre- sented, this is some feat. The Debate Team does more than debating. They also partici- pate in Model UN and Mock Trial. In the Model UN, our school re- presented three countries: the U.S.A., Kuwait, and Togo. Debat- ers and other interested contes- tants voted and debated resolu- tions at the University of Utah. Mock Trial is a state-wide compe- tition in which students act as Wit- nesses and attorneys and are judges by real attorneys and judges. Debate has been an interesting experience for all who participat- ed. 164 Debate Debaters must argue both sides of an issue. Play Depicts Prison Camp The school play, INeVer Saw a Butterfly, was held March 8th, 9th, and lOth. The story took place in Terezin, and Nazi concentration camp, during World War II. Raja, a survivor, told the story of the Jewish children of Terezin, most of whom were destined for the gas chambers at Auschwitz. Members of the cast included Korrie Hess, Katie Stosich, Ju- lia Cavaness, Steve Garrett, Jackie Shepherd, Melanie New- ell, Wendy Sherrick, Ed Steb- bings, Stephanie Stevenson, Tina Halpin, Lona Furgason, and Mark Reynold. Mrs. Brough, the director, commended the cast members for their cooperation and hard work. Raja QKatie Stosichj and Honza CJon Lornecb become friends Irena comforts Raja.
