There is no doubt that the Kearney basketball boys were exciting to watch. It derived from their street-ball style. Where did this style come from? l TEAM Kl-DPP Excelsior 74 90 Richmond 60 73 Ray-Pec 55 79 Boonville 63 64 Odessa 65 70 Lexington 70 59 Lawson 58 55 St. Mary's 59 67 Excelsior 68 74 Oak Grove 74 57 LeBond 6l 69 West Platte 44 46 Platte Co. 53 47 Q Plattesburg 72 49 X Carrollton 77 67 Liberty 66 64 l KHS Tourn. - 2nd Place l St. Pius 96 50 I Higginsville 5l 59 l Richmond ve I Smithville 83 62 Lathrop 5I 48 L Left. After many practices or games, many of the players would get together and play jamball for hours. The combination of hours of practice and jamball made the Bulldogs an up-tempo threat against any team. This temp led Kearney to a I4-I2 record. The outside bombs from Juniors Jim Robertson, 22.3 points per game, and Mike Miller, I4 points per game, complemented well with the strong inside game of Darin Ritter, l5.2 points per game. The scoring trio led Kearney to two victories over rival and state-finalist Lathrop. Kearney peaked early in the season with a second place in the Bulldog Classic and third place in the Oak Grove Tournament. y 11' J t vi' Front left to right - Todd Shear, Rodney Ervin, Daryl lrsik, Mike Miller, Kevin Breedlove, Jason Barr, Rick Kutch, Damon Fishback, Scott Bucholtz. In addition to girl's ten- nis, boy's tennis is also new to the KHS extracurricular activities. It was coached this year by Chuck Al- bin and Kevin Bufton. Although it is the first year, the team has come a long way, added VanDyne. All of the boys have previously played tennis. But for most, this is their first competition. Individually, some of them have done very well, but lack of experience and nerves have shown a poor team record, said senior Doyle R-iley. Winning a match is exuberat- ing! exclaimed Corey Hoth, senior. But it can be frustrating because you have to control your emotions in the game and concentrate on your physical abilities. Although the team has had a tough season, the opportunity to compete has prepared them well for next year. There has been vast improvement in skills and strategy , declared coach Kevin Bufton.
