Erin Watson tries a cross-body ride on his Harrison ville oppo- nent at Kearney. With seven being the bulldog wrestlers' lucky number, they had a very good season this year. Kearney took seven wrestlers to state. Kameron Slater, .lason Hensha w, Danny Hampton, Tim Harmon, Erin Watson, Steve Faunce, C who placed fourth Q and .lim Nicholas, C who placed third Q. At the season 's beginning, the team became discouraged after los- ing their first few meets. They became more sure of themselves, howev- er, after beating Richmond: a team that had not been beaten in the dual for two years. At district, which took place in Excelsior this year, the Bulldogs took first place for the second year in a row. Even though we started out slow, the morning practices and extra, hard work brought us closer together. All these, and Mr. Skillman's leadership helped our team to finish the season strong, Steve Faunce said. The wrestlers helped each other by encouragement. This combination of en- couragement and togetherness made people enthusiastic about the sport. Kameron Slater thought that all these things helped them as a team to compete and win. The bulldogs are looking forward to a great season next year. Al- though they are losing two state qualifiers to graduation, five will be returning. This should pro ve to be a plus for the team and help encourage the new wrestlers. 58 Varsity Wrestling Along with Mr. Skillman, the wrestlers watch the match at Kearney. ,L AA W ,,-1 ' ,X K ft ' f Kameon Slater defeated his Ohara opponent into a double arm bar. i .P X s ,Mx . gl As T chicl We f Q H will ar'- F Ats V F- ..,.. ..,..,....... ...4,.f ,. , ,,,.,, ,High 4 Az. The I 986 Varsity Girls' Basketball team spent much of their season as a group. Most of the players were sure about a winning season. Coach Herb Webster said. This year's team had not played as a unit on the varsity level before this year. They worked extremely hard at becoming a unit and were a very successful team. A 20 and 7 record is noth- ing to be ashamed of Many times low in conH- dence but high in energy brought them around. With a very tough reputation to live up to, the team had no fret. The parents and fans drove them with their enthusiasm to be proud of the team and their efforts. Good job Lady Bulldogs!!
