New NI-Ove!! Before the arrival of the I986-87 school year, some Kearney High School girls began practicing for a new sport. For the first time, tennis would be offered as an extra-curricular activity in the Kearney School District. The news came after a decision was made by the school board to be- gin a boys' and girls' tennis program, starting in the 86-87 school year. Girls' tennis was to take place in the fall and boys' tennis in the spring. Although most of the girls were just begin- ners, a few had surprising success. Raquel Evert and Lori Gauthier even went to the second round doubles at district. With only one senior leaving the squad, the team should have more experi- ence and even greater success next year.
