September 30, l986, it all began for the students of Kearney High School. The week of Homecoming was upon us. Some would experience the sweetness of victory and others the agony of defeat. Gossip would float about for five days on the latest stats telling us who was ahead during the class competitions. Homecoming is a special time for sen- iors but especially for those who are athleti- cally involved, said Glenda A ylward. Throughout these five days, the stu- dents were busy working on door decora- tions, floats, dress-up days and practices for the pep rally. Dominating the events were the underclassmen, leaving the upperclass- men in the dust. They also ruled in the float competition. ' Spirit was at its all time high for the pep rally. Due to untimely circumstances, 'the traditional gathering at the football field was relocated to the gym. We had our share, and then some, of rain. Nonetheless, the events went off in good order, with upper- classmen in the lead this time. The students' attire was old jeans and T-shirts spray- painted with their graduating year. Or, in the case of our beloved juniors, a big Oh Yeah , one of their favorite slogans. Also, for a twist to our events, a girls tug-of-war was held with the senior girls winning. The annual senior whitewash was cancelled, Dknumni ff... ,'7 'lllllnvumnaqpmn - ........-.,, leaving behind several disappointed seniors. I felt an important tradition was broken by not letting the Seniors white- wash, said Janet Hayes. But since they were seniors, they quickly solved their problem. Their solution. . .go four- wheeling! Along with all the other events, roy- alty was chosen. The candidates this year were: Freshmen Princess. Jennifer Vaughn Sophomore Princess. Cheryl Hayes Junior Princess: Tiffany Murphy Queen Candidate: Julie Buckley Queen Candidate: Sigrid Ferguson Queen Candidate. Joey Williams The crown was given to Miss Joey Williams. Even though the rain continued, the court reigned beautifully. The close of our Homecoming came with the dance, bringing an end to another fun-filled Homecoming. Nathan Arm- strong said, Homecoming was a very ex- citing experience and I 've got three more to look forward to! 4' w X Cheryl Hayes and Jennifer Vaughan ride along in the homecoming parade.
