FHA Invades The School Soon after school began the Future Homemakers of America met with their sponser, Mrs. Renfro, and voted Eva Thoman, President, Tammy McOsker, Vice Presidentg Barbara Scott, Secretary and Lisa Snook, Treasurer. Alice Carlson was the returning historian. During the year FHA had a picnic and a Thanksgiving and Christmas breakfast. They also celebrated FHA week with various activities. The Foreign Language Club has been through many changes since it first was established as the French-Russian Club in 1971. Through the years the name has been changed many times, and this year it was renamed the Spanish Clubi' open only to Spanish students. In the past, cultural activities were a big part of the club. They include teaching Spanish to elementary students, attending Crown Center's Mexican Fiesta, Marcel Marceau's performance, Bailes Espanoles, and Northwest Missouri States Foreign Language Day. At Christmas they travel to Children's Mercy Hospital, Maple Valley School for the Handicapped, and the Odd Fellow's Home to share in the holiday spirit with those less fortunate. This year they sponsor the concession stand at home track meets. Next year they hope to join American Field Service so they may sponsor more foreign students. In the past they have sponsored: Mario Saldana - Nicaragua, Flavia Albuquerque - Brazil, Hilo Nagai - Japan, Celina Lindo - El Salvadore, and Mochi Watanabe, Japan. DECA is a vocational youth organization for students in the C.O.E. program who are working toward distributive occupations. DECA offers a student the chance to participate in school activities as a part of an organized club. Students can demonstrate their skills or abilities in contests at the district, State, and national levels. The DECA member learns responsibility and has the opportunity to gain social and leadership skills through DECA activities. What is C.O.E.? Cooperative Vocational Education means a cooperative work study program of vocational education for persons who, through cooperative arrangement between the school and employers receive instruction, including required academic courses and related vocational instruction by the alternation of study in school with a job in any occupational field, but these two experiences must be planned and supervised by the school and employers so that each contributes to the student's education and to employability. 1978-7 Cfficers Top Row: Mr. -Witt, Advisor, Marlene Elliott, Treasurer, Pam Harmon Reporter, James Fox, Secretaryg Barbara McCarty, Parliamentariang Lies, President.
