Betsy Davison It is generally conceded that not all of the knowledge acquired during a college career is derived from books. Much of what we learn is taught by example, and it is often from this kind of teaching that we learn most. The ideal of de- votion must be taught in this manner. Devotion to a profession is always admirable, if that profession be teaching, however, it is a necessity as well. The class of 1968 therefore dedicates its yearbook to two faculty members who have exemplified the ideal of devotion to their profession. With pride and honor the 1963 Memorabilia is dedicated to Miss Betsy Davison and Dr. Jean Richardson. Miss Davison was as new to Newark State as we were in the fall of 1959. She soon became well known to all of us, not only in her oHicial capacity as Coordinator of Student Activities, but also as an interested and reliable friend of the student body. The long hours Miss Davison spends each day on campus are but one indication of the devotion she manifests for her profes- sion. When coupled with the genuine interest she possesses for all she does, this is truly an admirable trait, and one worthy of imitation. Admirable, too, is the efficient manner in which she has at- tended to the coordination of myriad student activities, and still found time to participate so enthusiastically in many of them. She is a person we have come to depend upon, because this de- pendence is fostered by a confidence in her ability to help and the surety that she will do so. Truly, Miss Davison has exemplified a genuine devotion to her profession and to the interests of Newark State College students. ,

Dr. Jean Richardson has displayed in her teaching a profes- sional devotion worthy of emulation. Students find her classes not only interesting and stimulating, but also practical and ap- plicable. Much of the value of her teaching, however, is not merely in content, but in the methods and manner in which she presents it. She is not only a gifted teacher, but one who practices what she preachesf' and for this she is held in the greatest of esteem. Moreover, Dr. Richardson is interested in her students beyond a professional capacity. As advisor to the Traditions and Pro- cedures Committee, she is concerned with the establishment of a heritage of tradition at Newark State. As a friend, she is always willing to offer help and advice to any student who desires it. In this way she has devoted countless hours of her time to both pro- fessional and non-professional counseling. Dr. Iean Richardson typifies the type of teacher we would like to become. Her devotion to her students and to the creed of teaching she professes is one we shall endeavor to achieve. of our experiences appear more significant than others.
