JANE PLENTY D E D I C T D We have stated in the theme that our progress will depend on what we learn from the past and what we dare in the fu- ture. How fitting it is that our two dedications are each a part of this whole-one to repre- sent the rich heritage of faithful loyalty to the students of Newark State College-the other to forecast the warm interrelation- ships destined to reach fruition in today's tomorrow. Devotion is a time-honored attribute. When it is fostered by love, nurtured by sensitivity, and crowned by intelligence, it is a gift both beautiful and rare. Mrs. lane Plenty is so gifted. Forty years have passed since this warm and gracious lady first began her tour of duty in the realm of higher education at the Newark Normal School. Forty years . . . and she has served gallantly and tire- lessly. First as a teacher, she showed the way to a deeper appreciation and understand- ing of numbers and formulae, then as the Mathematics Department head, she sparked her division on to greater heights, finally, she served as the ever-present manager of the book store. ment brings oblivion, Jane Plenty only re- tired to render a continuing service to the school. But now in '62 she says her final good- by to Newark State. To devotion such as this, we pay our highest tribute. Fred Marder is a young man whose be- lief in and respect for students has en- deared him to each of us. We have seen his deep concern for the students of Newark State College. We have felt he understood and shared the problems that were of im- portance to us. - His guidance and inspiration have led us to accept new responsibilities and posi- tions of leadership. His friendship and his cheerful disposition have meant an ever- open door to those seeking advice or en- couragement. As an educator he walks before us. As a friend he is among us-in all ways and at all times. The Class of 1962 takes great pride in dedicating our Memorabilia to jane Plenty and Fred Marder. Through our association with them, we have learned to love and appreciate these individuals. For their tireless efforts and unending faith in our behalf-we thank them!
