FOREWGRD We are proud to obtain our positions in the various school systems and classrooms .in which we can do our utmost to teach to the best of our abilities. Through our guid- ance, we hope to help the children we teach along the paths toward fullest possible develop- ment, giving them kindness and understanding. Psychology and other professional courses gave us the realization that each child develops at his own individual rate, physically, mentally, socially and emotionally. Our college professors have pre- sented many philosophies and educational theories which we will make realistic in the situations which will confront us. We are grateful to this college for the fine beginning we have had for our profession and are now ready to prove ourselves worthy of the responsibilities for which we are prepared. As we glance back at our college careers, few of us will forget what is written at the college entrance: Who dares to teach must never cease to learn. W The 1953 Memorabilia wishes every senior success and happiness, and we hope that this book will recall many wonderful experiences at N.S.T.C.

DEDICATIUN We, the class of 1953, are proud to dedicate this yearbook to our able friend and instructor, Mrs. Jane Plenty. All who come in contact with her realize and appreciate her alert mind and genuine affection for people. Her individual ideas and educational philosophy have helped us to consider the children we will teach as individuals, needing our kindness and under- standing as well as our guidance. Since September, 1921, Mrs. Plenty has instructed stu- dents in mathematical procedures in the elementary school. She came to our college with a degree from Teachers College, Columbia University and with several years of teaching experi- ence. Among her professional contributions are: Representing Newark State Normal on a State Committee in preparing a teaching manual in arithmetic for grade teachers, preparing and revising college courses of study, and working with a State Committee on grade location of course of study materials in arithmetic for the elementary schools. Since 1949, Mrs. Plenty has been the head of the Mathematics Department of our college. In addition, she belongs to the Teachers College, Columbia University chapter of Kappa Delta Pi, and has always been a loyal member of the Newark Chapter of this honorary society. The faculty and members of Kappa Delta Pi will remember the annual picnics given at her home. Mrs. Plenty has conscientiously managed the college book store for a number of years and has served the students unselfishly, giving generously of her time and efforts. Her belief in people has resulted in turning over book store responsibilities to students without hesitation. Mrs. Plenty is respected by all who know her and the class of 1953 will always remember her outstanding personality and numerous professional and social contributions to Newark State Teachers College.
