- K . Fffifw' ' Q 4'- K Q 'S 4.. w 'fe x -I , .1 . .wat -1 xr-is To the Students: Greetings. It is a real pleasure to write you a few words of greeting. Almost a year has passed since I have been with you. Most of this time has been spent in studying the program of the College. This means that I have been learning what you as students are doing to prepare yourselves to teach the young Americans who will come under your care. May I compliment you on your achievement. Education generally consists of the acquisition of knowledge, the building up of a number of skills, and the development of the right attitudes. But to this you must add a wholesome philosophy of life. Only by such a complete education will you be able to light the path of those who come under your guidance. By such help they may go forward to noble ends without faltering. The National Education Association has adopted a platform of principles which are: QU teacher education in a democracy must have a definite objectiveg Q21 teacher education must lead to an understanding of the major problems of social lifeg Q32 teacher education must develop leaders in the major learning areas and learning levelsg Q41 teacher education must provide for professional integration and orientationg 15, teacher education must provide for selection and guidance and for evaluating results. These five principles will give you something to hold fast to as you are tossed about on the uncharted sea of pedagogy. You will be responsible for the happiness of every child on whom your influence falls. May I urge you to be faithful to your trust. As the year draws to a close, I wish you success and happiness in every under' taking. After all, that is the goal of education. Sincerely yours, my L gfzaffa, President.

,sg .. . . x Each student has tucked away somewhere the memory of those fearful days when he wavered between rejection or acceptance as one of a highly selected group. The first step in the hopeful process of Student Maybe's application for admittance to N.S.T.C. is his personal interview by a faculty member. Much to his surprise, that dreaded ogre proves to be a kindly human being who makes him feel very much at home. A short time passes. The fateful day in May arrives when Student Maybe again treks back to Broadway and Fourth to see about a few exams. After five hours of brainfracking and fingernail-biting he returns home, probf ably by way of a still unfamiliar bus or train, to do some useless worrying over whether twofandfone half pounds was a logical answer for that math problem, and whether Shelley or Keats, or was it Byron, wrote Ode to a Grecian Urn. The more he thinks about his answers, the more thoroughly is he convinced that all was in vain. But before he can become utterly despondent, the postman arrives with a thick envelope fits bad news if it's tliinj and Student Maybe becomes Studenttofbe. A physical checkfup by the college physician proves that he is udisgustingly healthy and not on the verge of a nervous breakdown, as he had suspected. Now a fullffledged member of the student body, the oncefuncertain applicant can look back on the beginning of it all and concede, Oh well, it wasn't so bad. In fact, it was fun.
