'l'his inakes the service of teaching indispensable to the life of the connnunity, the state, and the nation, and we as einbryonic teachers should be frilly cognizant of the social significance of our endeayors. XYith such an objective we are going forth to attempt to inold the children of the nation. 'l'he load inay be heayy but the way is fraught with a certain fascination. 'leaching presents unliinited opportunities for enjoying one's work. Une iuust seek these deepflying and funda- niental inipulscs as the causes which explain the attrac- tiyeness of teaching. 'l'he teacher is in contact with youth, and it is natural for the adult to be attracted to and interested in the young-it is instinctive for the inature to protect and care for the innnature. The con- ditions whicli surround teaching stiinulate and develop this inrpulse. lt is an exacting responsibility and rnakes a constant dernand for the rnost devoted seryiceg but it is in rendering such service that others haye found, and we inay find the richest and inost satisfying values of life.
