SENIOR CLASS OR us if is buf a sfep now unfil we leave fhe sfafely porfals of our dear old Alma Mafer. If seemed buf a few shorf monfhs ago fhaf we were buf mere Freshmen wandering very awkwardly and self-consciously fhrough fhe halls, feel- ing very much frodden under foof by our superiors, fhe upper classmen. However, all fhings musf come fo an end and now we look back af our years in school wifh a feeling of regref fhaf fhey musf pass and yef proud fhaf we passed fhrough fhem so successfully. Wifh fhe advenf of our Freshman recepfion, which consisfed of a play in fhe audiforium and a dance in fhe gym, including refreshmenfs given by fhe Juniors, our social season opened, fo be followed nexf by our Freshman Dance in fhe Spring. Af fhis dance The insignificanf Freshmen disfinguished fhemselves as social enfer- fainers and decorafors and fhis repufafion confinued fhroughouf our following social evenfs. Our nexf affair was a colorful fall hop in fhe gym followed by our Junior Promenade af fhe Maplewood Counfry Club. This dance was our firsf formal affair given oufside of fhe school and everyone was very much fhrilled af fhe sophis- ficafed afmosphere creafed. This complefed our acfivifies for fhe Junior year buf liffle did we know whaf was ahead. l-low anyone survived fhe busfling acfivify of our final monfhs as Seniors, no one will ever know. The Senior B. Tea, fhe Circus, Senior Prom, Senior Assembly Baccalaureafe Sermon, all followed one anofher in quick succession and yef in spife of if all we found fime fo fake care of fhe work required of us by our insfrucfors. l-low some of us managed fo graduafe will never be undersfood and yef here we are on fhe verge of one of fhe proudesf yef saddesf momenfs ever experienced in Normal School. Wifh educafion af one of ifs lowesf ebbs in hisfory, wifh our ouf- look as black as nighf, nof one of us will leave Commencemenf wifh any buf a feeling of hope and convicfion fhaf some day we will be able fo do our parf in fhaf field of work which needs new and young blood fo keep if alive. Our work in school finished, fhe iob is hardly sfarfed. Many will be our disappoinfmenfs and sefbacks, buf we will overcome fhese as we have all ofhers, for The spirif inspired by our Alma Mafer can never die. RICHARD TAYLOR. Presidenf of Class of '34.
