The aims and purposes of the speech groups were outlined by the students at SPEECH the beginning of the year and they were exposed to a wide variety of speech activ- ities to accomplish these aims and pur- poses. Among the activities were: De- bates, Panel Discussions, Various Types of Speeches, Play Reports, Pantomimes, Story Telling, Oral Reading, Problems in Acting, Problems in Set Design, and Problems in Make-Up. A high school speech class de- signing a stage set. Eighth Grade discussing problems in speech. Many students have obtained a new de- gree of self-confidence and respect from their speaking and acting activities this year in Speech l. SOCIAL STUDIES Social Studies include: History, American History, Government, and Civics. juniors in third period giving oral reports. One of the best opportunities to make oneself strong is that of know- ing his government and its. back- ground. SCIENCE Science consists of four sub- jects: General Science, Biology, Chemistry, and Physics. One event the science depart- ment promoted this year was the Science Fair. Winners were: General Science First, Stanley McDonald and Volan Youngblood Second, Lounete Shelton Third, Kenneth Koen Biology First, Dwayne Fussell Second, Charles Wilson Third, Sue Morton Chemistry First, john Waldrip Second, Albert Thompson and Merton Watts Third, David Quinton and Jack Rhoads Physics First, Curtis May Second, John Fry and Reed Smith Third, John Waldrip The Science Fair was held April 15. Both High School and Elementary partici- pated. Places were also given to Elementary. During the Fair students were with their projects and demonstrated them to the visitors. A general science class
