ART Art is a facet of the gem of life neces- sary for a creative life. Dorothy Sanders and Mary Sullivan doing leathercraft. Bettie Cooper completing her horse of wood. Linda Adams finishing her pottery before firing. - -- Others to mention were Doyle Wright's shirt he wove and designed and Barbara Trail's drawings and sculpture of horses. SCHOLASTIC AWARDS Clay Hebert's "Trees" Margie Gest's "Still life" Marvin Divin's textile design Walter Galbow's weaving Ralph Fisher's weaving Violet Orsak's water color Patricia Klier's textile design Duane Bentley's textile design Lloyd Minze's weaving Roy johnson's tempera landscape Chester Hill's paper design Dorothy Sanders' sculpture is not shown. It went to National at Pittsburgh. Here it received Honorable Mention. Visual Arts at K.H.S. include: lettering, designing, drawing Qlife, still life, perspec- tivej, posters, printing Qblock, silk screenj, painting Qtempera, water color, oilsj, sculpture Qmodeling, carving, buildingj, pottery, weaving, and many other crafts. The art room is a laboratory for the experiencing and experimenting with the media available. The approach to any project is the creative approach. There are usually two problems in the experiencing and experimenting. These are: "What is the subject to be?" and "How to handle the media?" From this an attempt is made to produce and not reproduce. An attempt is made to re-create something by the manipulation of the tools and materials. Methods are demonstrated as possibilities for proceeding-the student then should add his ideas by experimenting with the media. The result will be new color or colors, or color combinations, new designs, new patterns, new crafts, and most of all an inner self-satisfaction of accomplishment by being an in- ventor. Studies of master painters and paintings are also included as well as the histories paralleled to each subject. With this facet to one's life he will be able to meet his personal and life problems easier.
