More than half of the class participated as either actors, prompters, or back- stage hands. Teen Time is a three-act comedy of a teen-age girl with a problem. Her problem includes boy friend difficulties, parent differences, little sister's foolish- ness, plus trying to get a 'teen-age hangout in action. By the reaction of the audience, it was evident that the play was packed with action, excitement, and entertainment. BOOKS AN D C ROO KS A , three act comedy Ig if by the ' Junior Class f JUNIOR PLAY Much hard work was done on the Junior play, not only by the cast, but also by the sponsors, stage managers, make-up, and prompters. The play was made a success by the contributions of these people. Books and Crooks is a comedy about two bank robbers that were hiding out in the school. A real mixeup took place when one of the robbers discovered that he looked exactly like the school principal. JUNIOR OFFICERS The Junior class officers have worked hard on promoting the various class proiects. The Junior play, parties, and prom could not have been a success without their support. In the picture above, the officers are shown pinning football ribbons on each other. Every year the Juniors are re- sponsible for selling these ribbons to boost the football spirit. The sponsors are: Miss Gill, Mr. Royston, Mr. Pollard, and Mr. Wise. This was an enterprising year for our class. We had a twirler and a cheer- leader. Besides that we had two all-district foot- ball players, not to mention the other good players. In basketball we had boys on the A and B teams, and we were well represented on the track team, and we were in every organization where we could be, there were sophomores-in the band, in the pep squad, and in most of the clubs. Many were leaders or excelled in these groups. We sent some of our members to interscholastic League and brought back several ribbons, Within our class we had a fine group of officers to lead us. The president this year was Albert Thompson, Jr., and the vice president, Angela Heinemier. Our secretary was Sandra Higgins, treas- urer, John Fry, reporter, Carol Grisbee, and ser- geant-at-arms, Jack Rhoads. We also had some won- derful sponsors and room mothers, without whom we could not have had the enioyable movie party the first semester and the nice chicken barbecue the second. The sponsors were. Miss Swogetinsky, Mr. Whit- more, and Mr. Baker. 'Wi The Katy High School Band of 1955-56 was lead throughout the marching season by drum maior, Barbara Shoenemann and twirlers, Athene Bundick, Madelyn Freeman, and Eileen Robichaux. Partici- pating in the annual twirling contest, the twirlers received a second division on their ensemble. On solo twirling, Barbara Jean made a first, Athene made a second, Madelyn made a first, and Eileen made a first. Long hours of hard work went into each activity these girls appeared in. Their spirit was always apparent as they led the band onto the fooball field at every halftime performance. iv. Y-1 kwa S-.5 sr . 1 , E 5'i, T 1 fl I ,Q .il . 2 Under the direction of Phil Baker, the Katy High School Band has achieved notable success during the past year. Twelve members of the organization, proving that long hard hours of practicing does count, qualified for the District Band. They were Joyce Gleason, Marion Williams, Angela Heinemeier, Hugh Sims, Estelle Clayton, Melqba Hill, Ralph Sloan, and Dorothy Latham. The six that sat in the top chairs in their section and qualified for the Regional Band were Joyce, Marion, Mary, Patricia, Hugh, and Estelle. From the Regional Band, Marion Williams went on to the top by becoming a member of the All-State Band. The band was also well represented by some of its members at solo and en- semble contest. One trio, three quartets, and seven solos entered, and they all received high ratings. In the fall, the band made a second division at marching contest. This spring, completing the year with success, the band made first divisions in both concert and sight-reading. This year's K.H.S. Band will be remembered long after their music no longer sounds. Many will remember at games, where the group lifted the spirit and morale of the team and fans. Some will remember at parades and concerts where they played music-part of it new to some, part of it well-known and popular to others, but all of it enioyed by everyone. SN S g. : N 312 .- .
