RELIGIO Religion is the foundation upon which Kapaun Mt. Carmel was built. This year the Religion Department has had several new changes. Besides the addition of two new Religion teachers, Mrs. Knolla who teaches Social Justice to Juniors, and Father Dan Spex- arth who teaches Church History to Freshmen, Father Ken Me- largno is responsible for instigating a new program for Seniors entitled Community Service. The goal of the program was to help students realize just how lucky they are and to encourage them to give and 'share with those who are less fortunate. Each student was required to donate a total of 44 hours of charity work to various community organizations such as: The Arthritis Foundation, Maude Carpenter's Children's Home, Camp Wonderful fwhich assists re- tarded childrenj, and the Pet Program fa program in which pets are taken around to old people to brighten their daysj. Furthermore Community Service helps to project a positive Christian image to the Wichita community which is also a goal of the Catholic Church.
