Boy! l'm cerTainly exciTed iusT Thinking oT whaT's To happen. As I siT here wriTing To you, my ThoughTs go back To The pasT monThs. I sTilI remember SepTember 3, The day we all reTurned To school as mighTy seniors. You should haveseen all The kanes and wahines greeT aikanes aTTer Three monThs of wonderTul vacaTion. Oh! yes, There were a few gloomy faces. They were Thinking oT having homework and TesTs. Our school carnival came raTher early This year, on SepTember 5, 6, and 7. I wenT wiTh Bobo, and we parTicipaTed in The varieTy show. Boy! was IT Tun! The besT parT of The whole evening was when we won Two large waTermeIons aT The spinning wheel. ExTra! ExTra! read all abouT iT. Yep! SepTember I9 we received our TirsT ediTion oT The Tradewind. SpoT IighTs were once again Turned upon TooTbaIl. The TirsT game was on SepTember 20, held aT Kaneohe. We played againsT CasTle High. Check! check! check! was heard in every homeroom during OcTober I and 2, as we had vision TesTing. Poor Bobo: he needed a pair oT glasses, Tor he could noT see The big E from where he was sTanding. Gee! Bill, I musT Tell you abouT The Aloha Week assembly we had on OcTober 22 in The school gym, Everyone was in Hawaiian cosTume. Bobo enTered The aloha shirT conTesT, buT Too bad, he IosT. Weren'T we happy when November 28 came around! IT marked The TIrsT day oT our Thanksgiving holiday. I cerTainly Tilled my sTomach wiTh Turkey and cranberry sauce. Poor Bobo aTe so much he remained sick Tor The resT of The weekend. CiTy sidewalks, busy sidewalks , ThaT's The Tune we danced To on December I9, aT The school caT'eTeria, Tor iT was The nighT our Tradewind dance. We called iT Silver Bells . This year Ch,risTmas vacaTion began on December I9 and ended on January 5. Imagine, Two whole weeks oT play. Bobo gave me a beauTiTuI nylon sweaTer and his clalss ring, and I cerTainly appreciaTed iT. I gave him Two pairs oT green and whiTe socks and my class ring Too. On January 5, baskeTbaIl season began, and we played againsT Kauai High. Kapaa IosT wiTh a score oT 25-30. IT wasn'T an easy baTTIe Tor Kauai High, however. Ding! dong! ding! I-Iaven'T you heard ThaT somewhere? Well, we did. on January I2. IT was The ringing oT The LiberTy Bell in our school yard. Imagine, ThaT was The Type oT bell ThaT rang ouT The cry oT in- dependence on July 4. I776. The Sophomores had Their Sophomore Week, February 7-I3. On Friday, aT Their assembly, Florendo Asuncion was one oT The perTormers. He sang Walking My Baby Back Home , and IeTT all The gals swooning. Kapaa's FuTure Homemakers oT America held a dance called Cage- sTer's Frolic on February 20 aTTer a KIF baskeTbalI game, Kapaa vs. Kauai High. The dance was superb 'cause we could celebraTe our vicTory ThaT nighT. Kapaa was mighTy proud oT our FFA boys and The way They per- Tormed on March 6. Lawrence Henriques was awarded TirsT place in The oraToricaI conTesT. On March 5, a Tew oT us Seniors cerTainly were sweaTing ouT The UI-I TesT. Imagine, we had To pay Two bucks To suTTer Tor Tour hours. The Jolly Juniors presenTed Their Junior Prom on March 27 and The Theme was Drearn . During The dance, I ThoughT of all The Tun you were missing. Bobo misinTerpreTed ThaT look. He ThoughT I was Thinking oT him. We Took picTures on April 6 and 7, and Tunny Thing was ThaT The Technicians didn'T wanT our smiles nor our Taces To show, buT iusT our chesTs. X-rays, you know. Kapaa may noT be The champions in sporTs, buT we can always be sure we are in oraTory. This year Arnold BapTisTe and Lorraine Eliazar, our conTesTanTs, won TirsT and second in The island Tinals, speaking on American CiTizenship. Whee!! you should have seen our May Day program This year. Irene Silva reigned as our beauTiTuI Queen, and Eugene Kahaunaele was The handsome King. Princesses and courT have never been more royal. May I5 marked The evening oT our senior banqueT aT Kauai Inn. Bobo saT beTween Mrs. BrandT and me. and he cerTainly embarrassed me The way he slurped his Tood down. I can'T wriTa any more. My hands are shaking and Therels a lump in my ThroaT. In anoTher hour. I'II be walking in The long-awaiTed proces- sional, soon To receive my diploma. This is Truly a happy and exciTlng nighT.
