Photo by Schotland o youlve just finished some late-night studying, or just left a party, and you're hungry for something. Anything: tacos, pizza, a deli sub, fries, or a milkshake, Frosties, Whoppers, or McNuggets. Youlve got one of the widest selections in the U.S., and quite possibly in the world, right here in Lawrence. Just take a drive down 23rd Street and take your pick. It's Franchise Paradise, those dozen or so blocks be- tween Louisiana and Iowa. Also known as Taco Row, 23rd Street has six, Ccount iem, sixll taco choices to en- tice you. Looking from one end to the other, the view is, to put it mildly . . . colorful. It's an architect's nightmare: an object lesson in the diversity of building form and style, a brash tribute to the creative spirit of American enterprise. But, as one nears the corner of Naismith Drive, KU's main link to Junk Food City, the landscaped me- dian, with its lush green foliage and bright flowers, stands out as a brief respite from the plastic and neon world of 23rd Street. If the prospect of cooking dinner, or yet another meal at the dorm or house doesn't exactly fire your culinary passions, then pedal, drive, jog, or walk to 23rd Street. You're bound to find something to satisfy even the most finicky appetites. - Ray Brecheisen
