Uongratulations from Chief Trustee Becker the new guardian of the constitution. new job To a certain extent, therefore, its operation is always a hit clumsy, a hit inefficient, hut somehow vigorous enough to he one of the oldest forms of organization to he found in our civilization, with its roots, indeed, back in the days of earliest recorded history. It will survive in the future only as its rights are defended, only as the various ele- ments treat the rest of the University community with respect and tolerance, only as freedom of thought and speech and action is rigorously upheld. Each of us has a part to play in torn would gladly trade titles. upholding the great traditions of K.U., which was born in a troubled period of our national history when our Kansas pioneers were throwing off shackles and insisting on the freedom which is our great American heritage.
