A steak is trimmed and prepared as students learn to handle various cuts of meat in the Meat Selections course. for a Dairy and Poultry Science building on which construction is to begin in March of 1962. The cost of the structure, which will be located to the west of the Animal Industries building, was estimated at hitting the $1.5 million mark, when fully equipped for use. This new research building, designed for both classroom and research study, is expected to be completed by the fall of 1963. Incorporate Department of Bio-Chemistry A newly created department for the School of Agriculture, the Department of Bio-Chemistry, was headed by Dr. Howard L. Mitchell. This new de- partment was staffed by faculty from the School of Agriculture instead of the Chemistry Department of the School of Arts and Sciences. The faculty asso- ciated with the new department was one of a few in the entire University which could boast 100 per cent PhD. degrees. Dr. A. D. (Dad) Weber, former Dean of Agri- culture now on leave with an assignment as a head administrator of a Ford Foundation project in India until June 30, 1962, was selected as one of the ten outstanding Kansans in the first 100 years of Kansas history. Artistically arranging the last blossom, students in Floral Arrangement II complete a colorful floral display. Frank R. Carpenter assumes the position of Assistant Dean of Agriculture after retirement of Clyde L. Mullen. An auditorium, classrooms and offices for the extension branch of the School of Agriculture are located in Um- berger Hall. Extension work covers not only studies in Kansas but also the experiments sent to foreign countries. 23
