In 1889 he came to Kansas City, where he read law with Judge VValter A. Pow- ell as preceptor until his admission to the bar in 1895. He began practice alone, but soon be- came a member of the firm of Wellman, Solomon K: Cooper, which relation was continued until 1905, when he resumed the practice of law alone. Mr. Cooper is well known as a demo- cratic leader in Kansas City. He has al ways taken an active part in politics, and has frequently addressed the public from Democratic platforms. In the fall of 1907 he was elected to represent the Seventh district in the state senate. Therefore, he is now one of the lawmakers of the state of Missouri.
