Y -vm. - ,. s, The Class of 1987 unified their souls and spirits, and showed Kalani that indeed they are a 'class of a new generationf Their wide range of abilities and talents was clearly visible in academics, athelitics, art, music, dance, and leadership. The dedication of the class created many memorable moments for them. The highlights of the year were the Senior Luau, class week, and an end of the year blast. The prom, which was held on May 9th at the I-lale Koa, was an experience that they'll remember forever! Throughout the past four years at Kalani, they went through many ups and downs, but they have grown tremendously from the experience, which was shown in their leadership this past year. Ever since their close win in class spirit points during their freshmen year, everyone knew there was something special about this class. They have continued to project their power and de- terimination, not only as individuals, but as a group. During homecoming and pep rallies, nearly every- one participated in the activities and showed their pride in the cheers. They were truly the 'heartbeat of Kalani.' --:...T ' Janis Shillkawa Catherine Takemoto 13 Marilyn Heen 5 A Dennis Ohta if Marlo Arakawa Raina Matsui SENIORS 15 1:2531 ,,.-f---'H ,, E . Homecoming week for the Sophomores was a very busy one. Everyone worked their hardest on the banner, float, and the skit, All that work paid off resulting in first place for the float competition and second place over all. Class week was a lot of fun which led them to the end of their year with the Freshman- Sophomore banquet, It was held at the Moana Surfrider on Febuary 27, 1987. Many people attended which made the Freshman-Sophomore banquet a great success. 9 s s Q ,,,i,YssSg ,t e '-yi.-if . -K K ,Y .. We issued three newsletters to date, commanded the attendance office with a volunteer parent each day, helped with the school rules committee and the Critical Thinking Project. We also solicited support for campus beautification. Immediate goals are to sponsor the Close-Up Program again this year, form an Alumni Association, conduct a fundraiser for com- puters in the administration C which will directly affet attentancej, help implement the Leaming Center, and continre efforts at campus beautification. Legislative lobbying for a psychologist in particular, and for inprovements generally, is planned. We succeeded in gaining students on the Board for PTSO this year, and strove to interest teachers in our concems. We feel school spirit, a vital issue has been improved, as has general overall attitude in the school. The team was made up of less than fifty players with eleven seniors. The Falcons started the season with Kailua, Kaimuki, Farrington and Pearl City that were rated in the top ten, plus their usual regular games against McKinley 13-10. The Falcon had talent but a lack of experience as the team was made of seven freshmen, twenty-five sophomores, six juniors, and eleven seniors In several games the Falcons came close to Kaiser 14-7, Farrington 10-6 but in the final minutes only to have victory slip out of their grip. The leaders of the team were co-captain Kurt Johnson, co-captain David Na'o and captain Nick Fineanganofo. The bright spot on the team was defensive lineman, tight-end Nick Fineanganofo. Nick made the Advertiser first team and made seoond team All-State-Team. Because there was no J.V. team this year, Coach Miyashiro and his assistants Jon Kapele, Jarrett, Tyrone, Henry, Ken, Paul, Burton, are trying to set up a J.V. program.
