Team Six is homeported with HC-8 at NAS Norfolk. They came to us as one detachment out of the eight that their squadron currently supports. The team was comprised of seven officers and twenty-one maintainers. Det Six flies and maintains two CH-46 Sea Knight helicopters built in 1964 by Boeing Aircraft. The primary function of the detachment throughout the MED 2-94 cruise was to provide logistic support to the USS GEORGE WASHINGTON Battle Group. This support primarily entailed the movement of passengers, mail, and cargo tPMCJ between ships and in and out of Mediterranean ports. The helicopter is capable of transferring cargo both internally and externally. With a carrying capacity of approximately 3000 lbs., the most efficient and desirable method to carry cargo is externally. attaching the cargo load to a cargo hook located on the underside of the l l' A . Th replenishment or VERTREP. In addition to PMC transfers. the Det was tasked to perform several medical evacuations and act as a search and rescue platform when called upon. The Renegades also participated in various special warfare operations. workinv closel with Nav' SE KEODJ units. Whatever their tasking. the RENEGADES performed their job with great Pride and Professionalism.
