BRO. IOSEPH HOFFMAN, S.M.
Dear Graduates ot 1957,
Each mans lite can be divided into several stages: childhood, adolescence, young adulthood and adult
life, Four short years ago when you entered Serra High School you put aside the things of childhood and
for the first time recognized yourself as an individual with the ability to make decisions for yourself
You were held responsible for these decisions. Your parents and your teachers endeavored to guide you
in your choices and gradually you developed standards and principles by which to measure the validity
of your judgments.
Gradually you developed into a young adult forming the personality and character which you will carry
into your adult life. Now you are on the threshold of the last stage. You have been prepared. The future
is entirely in your hands,
Time passed can never be recalled Your life passes by faster than you realize and as the years accumu-
late each of us will follow our separate careers. But we have one common vocation: to save our own
soul. The moral standards you have been taught at Serra should always be respected They are God's
rules for the game of life, Remember always that God's will is the only thing that really counts, no matter
what it costs by way of personal sacrifice.
You will always be a part of Serra. You will always belong to the family of Serra. Remember well the
lessons of family spirit. Remember that all good things come to you from our Blessed Mother, Mary Be
a true son to her and imitate Christ's filial devotion to her. No matter what trials come your way
remember that no one who sincerely prays to Mary is left unaided
Congratulations to you upon your graduation from Serra High School. lt is my prayer that you will be
successful in the career you have chosen and in the fulfilment of our common vocation, God be with you,
Sincerely in l.M.I.,
loseph L, l-loffman, S M.
