Vaulting team i new Iudson Vaulting team was introduced to the students by Elly Trepas, the English Riding teacher. Membership was available to grade schoolers as well as high school students. Vaulting actually means the art of gym- nastics on a moving horse, usually a trot or canter. A special device called a surcingle goes aroimd the horse's belly and has handles which are used to maintain balance. The team members practiced six exer- cises which were mandatory in com- petition, and the club planned competition with local teams. The main purpose of vaulting was to de- velop balance and courage in themselves and tmst in their horses.
