At one point during the cruise there was some contemplation about painting chess knights on Mount 51 and Mount 52. JOE STRAUSS had the hardware but was spending an awful lot of time just traveling. Recently they were given a chance to prove themselves in extended shore bombardment of South Vietnam. Aside from causing the shipfltters and electricians headaches, and jarring a few people's teeth, their firing was commendable due both to its accuracy and the fact that we never missed a mission in over 1000 rounds of Gunfire Support.
