Miss Shepard often found that grading her papers was harder than planning them. SOCIAL STUDIES In mankind’s past is found the seed of today’s reply to tomorrow’s need. The best way to anticipate the future’s problem is to study the past—history. Therein is also found the solution. With a knowledge of what caused the bygone generation’s mistakes, of how today most conflicts are controlled, and of what may confront us tomorrow, com- bined with an understanding of other places and people, perhaps when we shape the world’s course, our mistakes shall be fewer and our advances greater. MATH DEPARTMENT Calculations to confound, amuse, amaze. And count off remaining schooltime days. There is a greater service performed by the math department than aiding students to reckon the number of hours till summer freedom. The instructors serve both the college- bound and the vocational minded in the courses offered. Their main purpose is, they hope, that by promoting understanding of mathematical principles, students will promote more logical thought in Jordan’s halls. Not pictured: Mr. Luther Reeder.
