OUR BEST YEARS As another eventful year at Jordan comes to a close, we turn to reminisce. But this time we realize that we will be at Jordan no longer. This year was our last. There will be no going backg those golden moments have slipped away, we now have only memories whose value will increase with age. It seems only yesterday that we were walking down the grand halls of Jordan for the first time as lowly sopho- mores. Crand was the word we used to describe Jordan, because it was such a gigantic place. We felt so small and insignificant, especially when we encountered a bigshot senior. But we made up for our Hsmallnessi' by yelling loudest at the pep rallies, going to all the ball games, and making the honor roll every six weeks we could fit was the only way we could get our names in the paperj. It was a wonderful year and who can say it wasn't our best? Then came our 'unior ear and we were a little hi her on the totem ole. How conceited we were! Remember J Y g P how we sneered at the sophomores? Of course, we had forgotten all about having been pushed and shoved around just a short year before when we, too, were awed and inexperienced path-blazers in a new world. We loved being juniors. We could go to assembliesg we knew just how to maneuver about in the lunchroom and how not to eat elbows for lunch, we offered our services to every club that would accept us. We worked, we failedg but finally we achieved. It was a wonderful year and who can say it wasnit our best? Then came the sudden realization that we had finally reached the top of the Jordan totem pole-we were seniors. There was no stopping us then! We had come that far, and we were going all the way. Remember the fun we had selling the sophomores elevator tickets to the third floor and tickets for a chair in the lunchroom? But remember the work we had to do before we could have fun? There were book reports fat least fiftyj, speeches, science projects, poetry, and dozens of other thingsg plus all our club activities, assembly programs to present, collections for funds, participation in community activities, and . . . come to think of it, we had fun doing a.ll those things-well, almost all of them. It was a wonderful year and who can say it wasn7t our best? Now that we are leaving Jordan we can appreciate what we have gained during our stay here. We have gained a better understanding of ourselves and others, we have learned how to give of ourselves in community serviceg we have discovered that we must work to the best of our ability if we are to succeed. Jordan has given us that which cannot be given backg it is rooted within us and will help us to become hard-working, successful American citizens. Jordan has been good to us, and we will make it proud of us. -Maureen Powell 30
