Our Destination....The Future As we depart from our truly beloved Jordan for the last time, we turn for one final look. We see, besides the “grand ole building,” four wonderful years. They were years of contrast. Laughter, tears, gaiety, and sadness were alternately present in our ever-changing moods. Our senior class, the last to finish four years at Jordan, has experienced many different successes and failures. Although slightly scarred, we have managed to survive with heads held high. You might say that we were lucky in our initial year at JVHS, as the door was closed to freshmen just after we entered. However, this seemingly nice honor was turned to the contrary when, as sophomores, we found that we were again freshmen. We have witnessed on several occasions—and even taken part in some—events which will go to shape the history of our school. We watched, in' our second year, our bid for the Bi-City football championship go down the drain with our cliff- hanging loss to Central. But the two succeeding years, we hailed ourt teams to the top Bi-City standings. During our junior year, we saw our track team win highest position in region and local competition and make noticeable efforts for the state. Another feather was added to the Red Jackets’ cap when we won the trophy for the most school spirit at the first annual Football Kickoff Dance. We Jordanitcs have lived through many fads. One of these, the “white tennis shoes” days, was eventually replaced with the “old raggv tennis shoe” days when we could no longer afford new ones. And, is there any one of us who won’t be able to look back in a few years and say, “I never even tried the twist.” It may not have been as specialized or as classy as the charleston or the jitterbug, but you can be sure there was more exercise in it. Now as we have closed our locker doors for the last time, have jumped at the sound of the boll for the last time, and have walked away for the last time, we see the good in it all (though not as much as we will in the years to come). We are happy that school is over, certainly. But in a year or two, we’ll wish we were back grinding away in the classrooms. A sigh, a smile, and we’re on our way. Our destination . . . the future. —Gene Burkett, Mike Welsh, James Hurston
