Do you remember that warm fall morning four years ago when we started on the road through high school? lt was September l949 that we came from different pathways throughout the city to form the class of '53, Many have joined us and many have left since that time, making each senior feel infinitely richer from these new and parting friendships. Although some people say that we have lived our happiest years, we believe that the best of life is still before us. The books we have studied in these twelve short years are like maps that will guide us on the long, twisting road ahead. Many of us will encounter detours, but the strength and inspiration from our teachers and friends will always urge us forward, Among the large freedoms enjoyed in our democratic homeland are numerous little ones-school-connected4that are not always included when we count the freedoms of a democracy. One of these is the freedom to enjoy the fads we fancy. Remember the era of tlorescent clothing? The peroxided hair? The chills of football and basketball games? The rhythm and fame of cur Red Jacket Band, which was named the best band in the land? Each eagerly awaited issue of the Carmine and Grey? Our many Freedoms Founda- ticn awards? The parties furnished by the various clubs of Jordan? We could go on and on naming these, but why put them on paper when they will live on in our hearts forever? Now as we decide which of the highways of maturity to travel, we are enjoying another of these freedoms: the freedom of choosing a profession or our life's work, And whether we speed along in comfort or become a hitch- hiker-both riding and walking, we shall have faith that each senior of the class of '53 may some day reach his longed-for destination. --Marilyn Miller.
