QGC GFS appearances of a civic nature. MILITARY The objectives of the R.O.T.C. are to lay the foundation for intelligent citiyenship, to attain this objective. they teach the principles of leadership, respect for constituted authority, and give the student some basic military training. Pictured from left to right are: Sgt. Keith Kelly, Lt. Leroy Dyment, Sgt. Iirnest Mehlman, and Sgt. Harold Miley. MUSIC The band, orchestra, and choruses compose this department. The band plays for all militai functions and gives at least one concert each year. It furnishes music for every hon football and basketball game, and is often called upon to play for civic and patriot affairs. The orchestra usually gives two concerts each year, as well as making numeroi There are three separate divisions of choral organizations in J. H. S.g two junior unit and one senior or advanced choir. The Senior Choir gives one concert during the yea and assists on other programs, including the Baccalaureate Service and the Commencemei Program. Pictured here are our musical directors: Mr. T. SOCIAL SCIIZNCIE The social science departments consist of seven related subjects: Wcii'lcl History, American Government, High School Geography, Iiconomics, Sociology, and Interna- tional Relations. 'l'hese subjects are arranged in sequence from Wforld History through International Relations to show the course of a complete development of society as it has affected the institutions under which man has lived. STUDY HALL and LIBRARY The library is a second cousin to English. Vnlimitec sources of information and material are at our fingertip such as: current informative magazines, dictionaries, anc shelves packed with neat rows of books. It's a rare treat now-a-days to have time for study. Witl so many good and educational suhiects from which tn select there is not much time to get home work a school. However we have two study halls--one for girl and one for boys. Pictured from left to right are: Mrs Payne, Miss Bauer, and Miss Davis.

DRIVER EDUCATION and C.O.E. Driver education is offered each semester for one-half unit of credit. Entrance requirements are: The student must be fifteen years of age and have the necessary physical attributes to become a driver. The Cooperative Occupational Education pro- gram is a definite part of the high school. The coordinator is responsible for the supervision of the student while in training. The student is responsible to the coordinator for his con- duct on the job. It is the responsibility of the coordinator to select for training of the stu- dent, the parents, or the job. C7QdCgQl1S' MATHEMATICS This course consists of senior math, which is designed primarily as a refresherg algebra, which takes in quadratic surds, equations. etc.: plane and solid geometry, which includes theorems, development of axioms and portu- lates pertaining to space concepts, etc., and trigonometry, which includes functions of an acute angle as ratios, of an angle of any mag- nitude, radian measure, etc. The fundamental laws and properties of these subjects are used in physics, astronomy, engineering, surveying, and many other fields. Pictured from left to right are: Mr. Theodore Anderson, Mr. R. B. Johnston, and Miss May Aldridge. COMMERCIAL This department consists of typing, shorthand, bookkeeping, general business, business law, and business English. The course provides intensive and integrated pre-employment training in office skills as well as emphasizing the development of those personal qualities and traits that are essential for success in a business office.
