Boys' csfafe The main theme stressed at Boys' State was Americanism. For one week the seventeen boys who represented Jonesboro not only enjoyed the festivities but also gained knowledge about our American Government. Attending Boys' State were approximately seven hundred boys from all over the state. Each day the boys attended talks by speakers from various civic positions. Mayors, city council members, presi- dents of civic organizations, and officers in the American Legion gave their views on Americanism. One thing that the boys ap- preciated was- that each speaker gave them an opportunity to ask questions and to have discussions on the theme of each talk. The varied program consisted of swimming, football, wrestling, and horse shoes. Boys who attended Boys' State: FIRST ROW: David MacLeod, Billy Boothe, Lloyd Tucker, Bobby Easley. SECOND ROW: H. A. Fields, Mike Bridger, Mike Vinson, Warren Dupwe. THIRD ROW: Frank Elrod, John Hughey, Tommy Miller, Norman Hynes, Mike Cruse, joe Ed Smith. FOURTH ROW: Jimmy Turner, Phil Osment, Tom Watkins. The boys from Jonesboro chartered a bus to transport them to and from Boys State Shortly after reaching Camp Robinson, the boys were hard at work doing push ups
