For the past two years, the Jones Valley- Banks game has played a major role in the State standings. Our defeat of Banks last year caused them to lose a berth in the State Play-Off, and Banks hoped to retaliate by defeating us. A determined Brownie squad planned to collect the reward of a winning season--a State Play-Off berth. The Brownies won this place in one of the THOSE exciting games this school has ever seen. Both teams fought hard all night, al- though Banks picked up 6 points in the third quarter. With only a few minutes left in the game, Valley found itself 82 yards away from a touchdown. Brownies knew then it was time for the tough to get going! With the help of Jimmy Martin's leadership, they picked up those 82 yards. Martin collected 44 of them, with the last one being a one- yard drive for a touchdown. With 28 sec- onds left the game, Pitts added the winning extra point. That extra point gave Jones Valley its place in the State Play-Off.

They - s N felt a bit ill at ease since standing and cheering ,Q 1 X were verboten. C .ft 31 A valiant effort by the J. V. team in the second half was not enough to overcome the lead sustained by the Rebels. Brownies left L Huntsville a bit sadder Q20-131, but still proud to be the first team to represent Birmingham in the State Playoffs.
