1 ' Foreword This is the story of Jones Valley in its forty-second year. P ' Tis true that adversity has many faces, and so, while the ' 63 BROWNIE tells a story of hardship and inconvenience, it also tells a story of unsurpassed determination and loyalty. ' Tis a story of Brownies at Powderly and at Phillips. For some, ' tis the story of a daily eighteen-mile trip across town, of after-school hours cheerfully given in order to maintain an athletic program, a band, and glee club. ' Tis for all of us a story of great victory. Our suc- cessful campaign to raise money to rebuild our school is familiar to all Birmingham. ' Tis a story of Brownies im- patient to come home. Finally, ' tis ' the acceptance of the challenge handed to us by hundreds of Brownies before us: To maintain the high standards begun May the gold never tarnish The black ne ' er grow dim Till the goal of our hopes has been won.
