The co-chairmen, Dennie Sue Batis and Har Davis began plans earlyg committees were choseng and, everyone started working to set the scene for a Winter Prelude and the jazz of Stan Kenton's orchestra. The stage was finally set on November 25th, and when the couples arrived, they walked into a winter wonderland of lavender, blue, and white. A snowy hillside and a picturesque wooden bridge enhanced this fairyland. The tall, lanky Stan Kenton directed the orchestra in playing his distinctive type of mu- sic, artistry in rhythm. The traditio nal grand march was led by the committee chairmen. To sat- isfy the jazz enthusiasts, Kenton played The B ig Chase and The Peanut Vendor, two modern jazz selections. A romantic medley ended the evening, and Winter Prelude became a series ofimpressions in each person's memory. -...,.,.,:.s:.-.--4--V V .. H .515 - F - , -iff' ...- - NM 'W 1? ezx.. --.., ,g.,. Foremost of these activities were the two all-school-sponsored events, the Christmas mixer and the New Year's Eve dance. At the mixer Santa Claus read the letters he had received at the North Pole from the JC students. The couples at the New Ye a r ' s E ve dance greeted the year 1961 with laughter, plenty of noise, and good cheer. They danced from 9:00 p. m. to 1:00 a. m. to the music of Bill Carnegie's orchestra. A prelude to the Christmas season was the annualWALMother-Daugh- ter tea. With punch and cookies everyone enjoyed the Yuletide atmos- phere. Most of the JC organizations held holiday gatherings to promote the Christmas spirit. 4. , gg t L. ,pg- ' - 'S ..i,,,--N:2 V' 1 -w f y . l 'I' ' ..
