Winning AT Ull. District A keen desire for excellence in a particular discipline was visible when representatives from J.T. won honors. The district competition, held this year on April 8 in Lufkin, was sponsored by the University interscholastic League. Debate entrants were French Taylor, Brandon Criswell, Stephanie Griffith, Angela Owen, Michael Green, Angela Wells, Stephen Hubbard, Gina Smith, Scott Sipes, Dennis Stimpson, Adrienne Taxon, Deborah Stovall, Bessie Walker, and Muriel Gabel. Drama was represented by Tremel Johnson, Sonia Pfutzenreuter, Melanie Cash, Amy Cohen, Jackie Washington, Lara Henderson, and Kim Rich. Prior to the literary and academic competition in UlL, members of the John Tyler cast of t'Blithe Spirit presented their one-act contest play before district judges in Nacogdoches. Another area of competition for the four journalism students was in headline, feature, editorial, and news writing. Participants were Debbie Johnson, Ginger McKinney, Melinda Morris, and Barbara Woodyard. Other writing entrants competed in the Ready Writing division. They were Tanya Holland, Michelle Wilson, Kerrie Eubanks, and Scott Sipes.
