And The Band Plays On Invictus , Crown Imperial , Carroll- ton , Olympia Hippodromeu and Hands Across the Sea kept the JT spirit high, as the marching band thrilled football fans each Friday night. The blaring rhythm of these marches however, failed to account for the long hours of practice under an unmerciful sun during the many hours of summer band practice. Of course the most enjoyable aspect of the band program was the memorizing of marches and concert music. The marching didn 't end with football season. There was still the Rose Parade and Christmas parades to Wear out already tired feet. The seasons didn 't help either. As the blistering sun changed to icy coldg Hngers, lips, toes and noses became the victims of Mr. Melvin Davis, constant drill. But even with these hardships, a few hearty members struck out on their own as they entered UIL Solo and Ensemble Contest held in the spring. As the sun began warming up the earth it was apparent that some would be putting away their instruments for the last time as JT band members. That point was made clear on the day the Sophomores and Juniors insisted on showing their loyalty to the Seniors by singing the traditional and cherished song. We Love You, Seniors . Senior Barry Swanson looks for the yard-line. 24 . . . Varsity Band 56 The John Tyler band performs during half-time at the John Tyler-Marshall football game. Junior Gerald Mitchell holds the microphone as Senior Kevin Walding plays his Big John solo.
