Unity Boosts Spirit Anticipation of a pig-skin victory Hlled the air every Friday morning when the student body 'got that spirit as they entered the thundering gym. The sudden strumming roll of the snare drums brought everyone to his feet as the band struck-up The Star-Spangled Banner. l' Vibrant cheerleaders bounded onto the gym floor as the football players made a grand entrance through the lines of saluting drill team ofHcers, and majorettes. The deafening beat of the bass drums set the tempo for Big John as horn soloists played their individually composed solos. The majorettes, flag corp, drill team and drill team officers performed routines to popular hits such as K-Jee, Superman, Dr. Pepper, 'fSoul Man, Vegas, 12th Street Rag, and 'Blame It On The Boogie. The traditional John Tyler pride and spirit was kept as its highest as the new pop group, Dimensions, and the stage band performed occassionally. One of the highlights of each pep-rally was the presentation of the spirit stick to the most spirited and enthusiastic class. At the closing of each pep rally, the sentimental works of To John Tyler Highv echoed in the minds of students as they sang the Alma Mater. With their heads held high, the football players exited the gym as the students pledged their loyalty by singing 'Big Bad John. If , 2 . 1 ily!
