He is characterized by his Texas boots, but students also recognize him through his intelligence, his fairness in any situation, and his bright smile Mr. Hanna helps to keep the curriculum running smoothly by obtaining cooperation from all. School Board Setting the stage for higher learning, the school board planned various important goals for the school system to attain. The Tyler Inde- pendent School System maintained a system of quality and progressive schools. Academic opportunity and excellence were major objectives of the school board. Under the direction of Mr. Ed Irons, Superintendent of the Tyler Independent School System, Tyler schools have grown and prospered in facilities and the curriculum. Assistant Principal Mr. Leon Woods, Assistant Principal, prepares to begin another busy day by issuing admittance slips to students who were ill or tardy. Mr. Leon Woods Helps Promote Spirit Mr. Leon Woods and Danny Butcher file the names of students who were absent for that day If greatness was measured in size, Mr. Leon Woods, Assistant Principal at John Tyler, would measure ten feet tall. Most students associate Mr. Woods with school spirit. He can always be seen at any school function. He is always available to all students as friend and counselor. Primarily Mr. Woods ' duties are to look after the building and grounds. He also issues admittance slips to students who were ill or tardy. Also, included among his duties are disciplinary actions. 10
