NOMINATION for the best dramatics teacher goes to Miss Mary Boles, who has proven herself to have a deep under standing of the high school actor and HCIFCSS. A PRIDE OF THE LIONS' is the fine dramatic classes of T.H.S. this year. Under the brilliant direc- tion of Miss Boles, the drama students have found within themselves the hidden talent of entertaining an audience. This year so far the drama classes have given several plays, three of which were presented to the great satisfaction of the students and invited public. This ends a brief tour of the drama department of T.H.S. with all its stage-lights blazing on grease paint and its seniors trying out for the 1953 Senior Play. curtain IS IT REALLY ME! Recording voices is a great experience. You learn many intresting things about that part of your body called the voice. The students of Mr. Malone's sixth period speech class are demonstrating how to use the tape recorder. Adele Bacile is operating the tape recorderg Harold Dow is exercising his lungs. WHO WINS! In this picture the sixth period speech students of Mr. Malone are participating in a typical debate. Looks serious, doesn't it? The students in the picture from left to right are: Pamela Arnold, Bernie Mullican, Emma Briggle, Ann McCullars, Gary Coalson, Mike Whisenhunt, and Adele Bacile. If while wandering in the hallowed halls of T.H.S. one is nearly trampled by a rather dignified-looking young man with a mike in one hand and a recorder in the other, don't be alarmed. It is only the speech teacher of T.H.S., Mr. Malone. PROGRESS has been the key word of the speech department this year. Not only have the classes been made more inter- esting by the varied programs, but for the first time in several years Mr. Malone has organized a debate team. Also Mr. Malone has been recording homeroom programs with the help of his able speech students. li t HQEIQD, ACT Il-Sfmt 1: Steward. joe Lee Nealg Stexxartless. joanne Millcrg Two English girls, Patti Matthews. EACH YEAR for the past few years members of the THS art department have entered the Scholastic Art Awards contest with high hopes of winning an award. In previous years, the students who entered sent their entries to the regional contest so that the better entries could be chosen and sent on to the national contestg in past years Tyler High students have found their names ofte.n on the winners' list. Last year Sanger's of Dallas sponsored the preliminary contest for Dallas and East Texas, however. this year Dallas has withdrawn leaving THS with no place to send her preliminary entries. This is the reason that THS has only around 10 entries, whereas. she usually has 30 or more.
