Staring cff with a bang, Tylers Lions rolled over the Jacksonville Indians, co-champions of district twelve, ZERO in The sea3on's curtain raiser. Many Third and second-stringers saw action and every man captured a scalp. The visitors threatened seriously only once. That was when Binky Giles broke loose and had scarnpered 60 yards down the field before being overtaken by a hustling tackler, J. D. Kay. ATHENS 6-TYLER 39 The second string pileedriving line started This first conference game and had rolled up thirteen points before All-District Red Shaw and his Hornet crew could get to Their feet. With The half-time score 33-O, The Lions let up and coasted to a clean victory. Burnett and Tunnell, left haltbaclcs, took scoring honors with eighteen and Twelve points, respectively. CORSICANA 12-TYLER 6 The Blue and White, after bagging down three times inside Corsicands ten yard line during the first quart ent down in defeat at the hands of the Tigers in a surprise upset, T2-6. After a scoreless first half, sicana counted early in the third quarter and also in the fourth. Somehow the Tyler boys could not get started. Their lone tally came late in the fourth quarter after a maze of passes, the scoring play being a forty yard pass rom Johnson to Burnett. Me ASO ARLINGTON HEIGHTS O-TYLER T9 Recuperating from a stingin efeat last week, the Lions showed what they really could do by wals loping the highly tooted Arlington eights iFt. Worrthi Yellow Jackets l9eO. The new combination of Hammett at half and Stirman at full worked nicely. Johnson also made some beautiful tackles from The tailback position, and Burnett added twelve more points to his total. GLADEWATER O-TYLER 25 Ty'er cgain kept its district slate clean by winning over the Orange and Black boys at Gladewater 25-fO. Hanna started this ganie at full with Stirniazt and Tunnell ends. After gaining a safe lead, Tyler ran in many substitutes but The Bears were still held scoreless. VVells, quarterback substitute, made some very dazzling runs and heaved some long passes which ks-pt the eiieniy guessing. A special train was run for this ganwe and the Blue Brigade attended. TEXARKANA O-TYLER 6 Back home in a long, hard fought battle, the Blue and Vvhite wave decisioned the strong Twin-City Tigers 6-O. Burnett accounted for the only score after taking a pass frcm Johnson iust two minutes before the half-time period. Texarkana threatened to score rarely, but the homelings were continually bogging dcwn after long drives up the field. Johnson and Hammett shone cn defense while Stirman was the chief ground-gainer. NACOGDOCHES O-TYLER T9 In a non-dlstrict fray, the Tyler Lions subdued their last season's bi-clistrict foes T9-O. The first score came iust eight plays after the kickoff by virtue of a long pass from Vvells to Hammett. Wells, substitute quar- terback, played all but the last few seconds of this game and unreeled many breath-taking passes and rcns. Franklin Brewster and James Dennis also gave the fans thriils in substitute roles. The Dragons out- weighed the lccals considerably but lacked the superior qualities of the home team. Almost all the regu- lars rested this game to play safe for the forth-ccming tilt. LONGVIEW T4-TYLER 7 On Armistice Day, the Blue and White boys went down in defeat for their second and last time for the season to their old arch rivals, the Longview Loboes. Tyler was up against a tough group of players who were also playing above their heads for revenge. This afternoon Gilbert Johnson probably played the best game of his career thus far. His passes were accurate to a T but the receivers just couldn't hold them. Too, he played a iamsup game on defense. Billy Jack Brooks at tackle was hard to budge and as for coffin-corner puntirig, his was the best this year. Joe Dean Bailes gave the visitors many set backs but despite all this, Longview won even after Tyler tied the score in the third quarter at 7-7. In the last guar- ter the visitors made their last hard drive and Fambrough scampered twenty yards over for a touchdown. KILGORE 6-TYLER T3 .Again after a stinging defeat, the Tyler Lions came back strong to defeat another high-flying team, the Kilgore Bulldogs. This win put Tyler back in the running for the district crown because of the defeat of Longview at the hands of the Bulldogs previously. Kilgore was without the services of their All-District Ken Hallmark except for the last few minutes of play. Then did they ma their only score. Our own forward wall, which pounded the visitors, accounted for our victory. MARSHALL 7-TYLER 40 Showing real championship power, the Tyler High Lions turned under th ir ast district threat, the Mavericks of Marshall, 4047. With a substitute dotted lineup and scoring almost at will, thi victory put the locals in a district tie with Longview, but the seniors played their last high school football o ' day.
