JUNIOR VARIETY SHOW March 29, the junior Class presented the junior Nightmare. The review included approximately fifty members of the Junior Class. They exhibited their musical and dramatic talents through a fast-moving script written by a student committee. The basic theme was that of Dreams, introduced by the Sandman. The production opened on the last moments of the traditional Junior-Senior Picnic. As the evening progressed, the audience followed five members of the group to their homes and even intruded on their weird, fantastic dreams. They saw a student's dream of an ideal school, where everyone majored in the subject Fun, From there they took an Arabian Night's adventure to a distant land of magic and harem girls. The Stork Club, a Broadway hit, and a Harlem scene completed the nightmares. The Grand Finale brought together all the talent of the various acts. The production succeeded only through the fine cooperation of the class members and the faculty. JUNIOR ASSEMBLY PROGRAM On the last day before Christmas vacation, the Junior Class presented a program containing three different acts. Because of the C 86 H Christmas program preparations, it was held in the grammar school auditorium. The first number was a short play entitled Too Much Mistletoe. Following this were the skits Dear Santan and It's a Gift. The program included singing and dancing as well as dramatic productions and was greatly enjoyed by the audience. SENIOR PLAY The Senior play, Growing Pains, was presented November 30, in the high school auditorium. The play was a complete success, from an artistic as well as from a financial point of view. The play dealt with a teen-age brother and sister and their friends, and showed the emotional difficulties arising during the adolescent age. The audience was highly enter- tained by Ge0rge's first taste of puppy love for Prudence, by Terry's development from a tomboy to a glamour girl, by the mother's sympathetic understanding, and by the professor father's dry humor. The climax came during a party where George, defending his girl, knocked down an officer and was taken to jail. In the last act, all diiiiculties were solved, and peace reigned in the Mclntyre household. Miss Keyes directed the production and the following teachers helped to make the play a success: Miss Erland, art and costumingg Mr. Larson, numbers by the chorus between acts, Mr. Floyd and Mr. Eyre, scenery, lighting, and sound effects, Miss Skaale, programs, and Miss Erb, financial arrangements. All members of the Senior Class sold tickets. The various committees were headed by the following students: Hazel Parreira, business and advertising, Glenn Dyer, programs, Geraldine Lawrence, ushering, Norine Nelson, properties, and Joe Longo, tickets. X X FRESHMAN FROLICS The Freshman Class was the first to undertake the new enterprise of entertainment programs for student body assemblies with their presentation of the Freshman Frolicsf' Their program took place on November 9, and exhibited the various talents of the newly arrived freshmen. Acts consisted of a quiz playlet, a chorus line dancing to The Light of the Silvery Moonf' a melodramatic mystery, vocal solos, and numbers by a dance band. The lfreslimen gave the other classes a high standard of entertainment to equal. SOPHOMORE ASSEMBLY PROGRAM The Sophomore Class was the last to present an assembly program for the John Swett Student Body. In order to have something different, the class selected a radio script idea, with audience participation. Before the microphone came a parade of class talent, including song trios, fancy skating, and piano solos. The high point of the program was the Truth or Conse- quences number, and did the audience have fun being put on the spot! The program was sponsored by the Pop-right Rubberized Chewing Gum Company. This presentation by the Sophomore Class was the conclusion of a very successful series of assembly programs put on by the various classes this year. Much of the credit for the success of the programs is due to the excellent direction by Miss Prising. The student committees who planned the numbers and the many students who took part in the programs also deserve the gratitude of the entire student body.
