during the fourth quarter we lost Guido DaRe, Bob Wilson, AI Astiz, Pete Cortez, Bob Garcia, and Claude Messina, and with those boys out of the line-up, Antioch was able to run the score up to 27-7. Ligon, DaRe and Messina turned in sensational games, while no adjectives are large enough to describe the really heroic fight our boys, as a whole, put up against a much larger, much more experienced football team. We lost the next game to the team that later went on to win the League Championship, the Pittsburg Pirates. Our team was still without the services of four of the boys who were injured in the Antioch game. We played the game with five boys, who, prior to this season, had never played football before. Pittsburg made three long runs for touchdowns, one of 88 yards, one of 65 yards, and one of 50 yards. Pittsburg won the game with a final score of 30-7. After the Pittsburg game, we had so few men still physically able to play that we had to move Ligon to quarterback, thus weakening our end position, to have him replace the injured Messina. We then went to work on the T formation, and after losing the next two games we started clicking as a team, and beat Alhambra in a return match, I3-0, while the B team defeated Alhambra 27-0. Urbick, Diaz, Astiz, Cortez, and Hargadon were the stars of this victory. Our final game of the season saw the team once again as a unit, with all of the injured boys back in uniform. Our finale was against a strong team from Liberty High. The game ended in a score of 27-0, in our favor. The boys played beautiful ball on that day: while Ligon and Astiz were the standouts, others cannot be overlooked. Wilson, Madden, Cortez, DaRe, Diaz, Urbick, Ponti, seniors all, played the type of game that saw very few mistakes made by any of our boys. The passing combination of Ligon to Fanucchi was excellent. Astiz set up one touchdown by a beautiful 60-yard return of the second half kick-off. The season as a whole was a success. It was the first time that we were ever officially in the League, and we gave every team a good game, whether we won or lost. Our B squad played only two games, winning both of them. Collectively we won eight, and lost four. Aside from the winning or losing of the games, the boys learned many lessons from Coach Aiton that will benefit them more as time goes on, and will be a carry-over into social living. l K

BASEBALL it The John Swett ball nine has the appearance of a winning organization this year. With 'Four veterans, all juniors, reporting this year, and the return of Stan LaFontaine from the battle zone, Coach Stevens has developed a strong combination. LaFontaine and Hargadon are the best battery in the County. ln three League games played, the opponents have scored tour runs, while the locals have crossed home plate sixty times. The team is strong down through the center with the keystone combination of Sausedo and Cooper, and with Garcia and Messina roaming the garden patch. In pitching, LaFontaine has ample support 'From Otto Brueheim, Jim McGrath, and Bernie Hargadon, all able to talce their turn on the hill. ln battery Garcia is leading at the present time, with Sausedo and Hargadon driving in plenty of runs. Another pennant appears to be nailed to the Indian masthead.
