These words were heard time and time again as JOHN RODGERS went about keeping her fuel tanks and storerooms full. Nearly all fuel, ammunition, and provisions received during the deployment were by underway replenishment, rather than receiving them inport. The fre- quent evolutions kept the old salts on their toes, and provided good training for those who will take their places on deployments to come. Perhaps the most unusual replenishment of the deployment happened in Toulon, France, when the rigs were passed from USS SAVANNAH in the adja- cent berth, and the replenishment conducted while pierside. But no mat- ter where we were, the floating gro- cery stores and gas stations kept us going, providing that mobile logistic support that only the U.S. Navy is famous for.
